Sound Matters is a project to support a range of public engagement activities to promote Acoustic Engineering including:
Growing Sounds is a creative and cross-curricula approach to teaching the science of plants and sound for primary and secondary schools. It is a stand-alone, high-impact, day-long workshop bringing together music and science. These activities have been shown to be very successful and are now being developed by Wonderstruck Learning into CPD materials.
Has brought together the Universities and the science communication specialists Science Made Simple to create a science show aimed at 14-19 year olds which is also accessible to the visually impaired. The show has been developed and successful pilots carried out. The completed show will be inherited by the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester and INTECH in Winchester. Read more.....
Working with Ecsite-uk, the UK Network of Science Centres and Museums, A series of Dialogue activities are being developed to engage the public in topical discussion about sound. The first activity features soundscapes and is aimed at adults. The second activity is for school student and examines hearing damage. Read more.....
This project is currently focused on a collaboration with the artist Luke Jerram. This project, called resonance, involves carrying out school workshops where pupils design and build Aeolian harps and will culminate in the building of a temporary structure that resonates in the wind, located for short periods of time in various windy locations around the UK.
