Sound Waves

AS / A Level Physics

Welcome, this is, a learning resource for AS and A Level wave and sound physics. This site uses high speed video and animations to help explain waves and acoustics.

If you have a 3GP video compatible mobile phone visit the new Sounds Amazing WAP site. Here you can download slow motion video clips of wine glasses exploding, balloons popping and other exciting experiments connected with sound and waves. Simply type the following address into you phone's web browser: www.acoustics.salford.ac.uk/feschools/mobile/index.wml

Note: Flash Player 6 Required for most pages. Due to the large number of animations that are present on each page there may be some performance problems if all are playing at once. It may therefore be necessary to turn each one off after you have viewed it (use the red 'On/Off' radio buttons to do this).

You might also want to visit our companion GCSE level Sounds Amazing here, our How Science Works pages or other school curriculum materials
