Grand Opening - Acoustics Facilities
The Grand Opening of the £2.5 million new acoustic test facilities took place on 25th October 2007. The formal opening was carried out by Dr Andy Bower of BBC Future Media and Technology. In his speech Andy commented on the close relationship between the BBC and the AAV group, quoting the development of the new BSc(Hons) Digital Broadcast Technology that Andy was involved with, joint research projects and the successful industrial placement of Angus Bisset, a BSc(Hons) Audio Technology, student this year. We provide acoustic testing, calibration and consultancy through our commercial services.

Over 100 delegates came to the opening. These included colleagues from industry and academia, many AAV graduates working in the UK and overseas, the vice-chancellor and members of the University of Salford senior management team. In the busy facilities and over lunch, a member of the Salford alumni office was able to have a word with some of our graduates:
- Peter Chapman, BEng (Hons) Electro-Acoustics (1996), Bang and Olufson
- Strat Barrett, IoA Diploma, Self Employed
- Ann Fomukong, PgDip Audio Acoustics (2005), C-Tec
- Antony Locke, BEng (Hons) Electro-Acoustics, Nokia Mobile Phones
(a transcript of these interviews is available)
Four past presidents of the Institute of Acoustics also joined us:
