Profile

I have recently completed a PhD in the field of Structure Borne Sound (SBS). My PhD research was part of a collaborative EPSRC funded project with The ARU at The University of Liverpool and the Institute Of Sound and Vibration at The University of Southampton. The project worked towards developing a Structure-Borne Sound Source model as a pre-processor input to Statistical Energy Analysis (“SuBSS-SEA Pre-processor”).  My work entailed the consideration of uncertainty in SBS power transmission between a source and receiver and my thesis can be found here.

I am currently working with Andy Moorhouse and Andy Elliot on the IMP&CTS project.

About me

After finishing the BSc in Acoustics at The University of Salford in 2005 I began my research working with Andy Moorhouse on the CHARMS project developing an acoustic source characterisation of centrifugal fans for use in Virtual Acoustic Prototypes (VAP) models of white goods (tumble dryer).  Virtual Acoustic Prototypes involve sub-structuring a system into its active ‘noise’ generating components (motors, fans etc) and the passive frame or installation. By characterising these components independently virtual prototypes of assembled machines can be created. After working on this project for six months I started my PhD research. During my PhD research I have gained considerable understanding of the issues faced when considering SBS transmission.

In my spare time I enjoy listening to a wide range of music. Other interests include cycling, reading, food, photography, travelling and films.
