Reassessments over the summer period 2010

Note that resit examinations will take place between the 23rd August and the 4th of September 2010. Individual timetables will be posted to your home address. If you have any problems, please contact the school office or your course leader.

Types of Reassessment

You will have been informed by post of any reassessments that you need to do for progression or award. For degree or MSc students you'll re-sit all failed components, for HNDs there is typically one reassessment per module.  For each assessment please be absolutely clear about which type of reassessment you have been asked to do and note hand in dates, exam dates and the availability of library, computing and lab facilities.

Types of reassessment include….

  • Submit coursework … an assignment briefing detailing work to be completed and submitted to the school office by a specified date.
  • Re-examination of a seen paper … an exam paper sat at a specified time and location. The paper will be based on questions set in the January/May exam. However which questions you must answer will be specifically stated at the time of the exam, there will be no optional questions.
  • Re-examination … a new unseen exam paper sat at a specified time and location. Typically if you have had a PMC accepted to be reassessed for first sit you will sit an original paper though some module coordinators may set an original paper for all students re-sitting their module.
  • Rework … an exam paper to be completed in your own time answering all questions and submitting as an assignment. Reworks are given as assignment briefings.

In all the above cases apart from reworks the pass mark will be 40% (50% for MSc). Reworks require 70% to pass.

Reassessment marks will be capped to 40% (50% for MSc) when submitted to a level total. However in exceptional cases a student may be asked to do assessment as a first-sit in which case no capping is applied. If reassessment follows a plagiarism case then 0% is added to the level total.

Re-sit Assignment Briefings and Rework Briefings

To access your reassessment briefings for coursework go to http://vle.salford.ac.uk hence in School of Computing, Science and Engineering blackboard module go to Exam Results section, Reassessments Arrangements Section.

If your reassessment isn't already there check again over the next few weeks or contact your module coordinator or school office. Some reassessments may also be available via a given module's blackboard page.

Please carefully check Module Name and CRN code pertaining to the module you are being reassessed for. Please note the hand-in date on reassignment briefing as late penalties are strictly applied. If hand-in date is not stated on resit-assignment briefing then assume a deadline of Monday 4pm on the 23rd of August 2010. All work must be handed into school office.

Do check regularly your student email during the re-assessment period via the web using https://webmail.salford.ac.uk

For any enquiries please contact the school office.
