Job Prospects for BBC Manchester & Media City

Set for completion in 2011, the Media City UK site at Salford Quays will be home to five major BBC departments including Children's, Sport, New Media, Five Live and Research and Development. In addition, some of the World's biggest companies in broadcasting and new media will call Media City their home. Salford University has received a massive seal of approval for our innovative education centre at Media City UK, with an £8m grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England, and are working closely with the BBC to nurture students looking for jobs within Media City, and in particular with the BBC.

We have worked very closely with BBC Manchester and BBC R&D historically, and the move to Media City will only serve to strengthen ties between our two organisations. We recently filled a role in BBC Future Media - see the example job description for the Trainee Technologist, BBC Future Media and Technology.

Students have worked in BBC Future Media and Technology for a year between the second and final year of their degree (see Angus Bisset's Placement Diary). Current students should see the notice about 2010 BBC industrial placements here. Note that these are subject to open competition from all qualified students.
